In this guide we’ll show you how to connect your WhatsApp number to your Chaty widget.
Step 1: Start by opening your Chaty dashboard and click on Widgets. Click on edit next to the widget you wish to edit.

Step 2: From the first step, “Choose your channels” step, add WhatsApp. It will appear below.

Step 3: Fill in your WhatsApp number, ensuring you add your full number with country code and a + sign in front of it. Once you start typing your country code, it will automatically appear. Alternatively, you can manually select your country code from the country code dropdown.
You can also choose whether to show this channel on desktop or mobile, or both.

Step 4: Next, choose whether you want to show a WhatsApp popup as well (it’s turned off by default) – with this feature you can show an embedded WhatsApp window with a welcome message, encouraging your customers to start chatting with you. Once they type their message, they’ll be redirected to the WhatsApp app to continue the conversation.
If you enable it, you will need to add a custom welcome message, such as “How can I help you? :)” and select whether to have the embedded window open by default on page load.

Step 5: Next, click on the “Settings” button to reveal additional settings for the channel. From there you can add on hover text (the text that will show when somebody places their mouse on the channel), icon background colour, desktop behaviour (to use WhatsApp Web on desktop – if unchecked, Chaty will “look” for the WhatsApp desktop app), as well as a custom image for the channel. If you upload a custom icon, please make sure you upload an image file of the following types: .png, .jpeg, .jpg, .gif or .svg and that it’s no bigger than 100 KB.

Step 6: Finally, if you’re a Pro user, you can also add a preset message – this is a message that will automatically appear in the WhatsApp message box when your website visitors start the chat, e.g. “I have a question”. You can also use {title} and {URL} tags to grab the page title or URL your customer is contacting you from automatically, e.g. the current URL of a product to the message so you know which product the visitor is talking about when the visitor messages you.

That’s it! In the end, depending on your settings and customisations, it may look something like this:
